Tapodhir Bhattacharjee born in a small city named Silchar in North East India, is a poet, literary critic and an exponent of contemporary theory and comparative aesthetics. Though Bengali literature is his domain, he traverses with ease in world literature as well. He studied at Gauhati University while obtained Ph.D from Jadavpur University under the supervision of Prof. Sukumari Bhattacharjee, an acclaimed Indologist of contemporary times. Tapodhir chose Sanskrit epics as his area of research with emphasis on its continuum in Bengali literary epics authored in the 19th century.
Tapodhir has the rare distinction of obtaining a topmost position in masters degree examination thrice. He taught for over a decade at a college in Silchar, as well as at the Universities of Gauhati, North Bengal, Burdwan (West Bengal), Assam (Silchar) and Delhi. In Delhi University, he adorned the prestigious Rabindra Nath Tagore chair post. In March 2007, he became the Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Silchar, in which capacity he contributed immensely to the growth of the University till June 2012. After his superannuation in December 2014, University Grants Commission offered him Emeritus Fellowship. His teaching career is thus spread over close to five decades.
Tapodhir is a well-known poet with thirty-one anthologies to his credit. However, he is better known among the readers as a distinctive interpreter of contemporary literary theories and a critic of a high order. He has authored books mostly in Bengali though a few books are in English as well. Two books have been translated in Assamese. Besides, Tapodhir has also authored a series of monographs on the theoretical microcosm of Michel Foucault, Rolland Barthes, Jacques Derrida, Terry Eagleton, Jean Baudrillard, Hans Georg Gadamer.
Tapodhir Bhattacharjee has been editing a literary Journal named Shatakratu since 1973. He contributes regularly to the little magazines and journals published from North East India, West Bengal, Bangladesh, and elsewhere. He believes in consolidating the alternative dynamics of discourse and aesthetics that promote non-institutional worldviews.

- Civic reception accorded by Beyanibazar Municipal Corporation on 27th December 2004 at Beyanibazar, Sylhet, Bangladesh.
- Jibanananda Puraskar awarded by Amritalok, at Midnapore, West Bengal on 25th November 2006.
- Jugashankha Sahitya Puraskar Awarded by Dainik Jugashankha in Silchar on 23rd March 2011.
- Shib Narayan Roy Smarak Puraskar Awarded by Bangiya Sahitya Parisad, Kolkata on 22nd June 2014.
